I don't know what romance is

(This is a poem I wrote for a college assignment.)

I don’t know what romantic love is, 

I have read about it in books, 

But how do you keep someone around? 

You can attract someone with good looks, 

In love together you both are shallow bound. 

You can trick them into love with your pocketbook, 

But that love, like a ship, will run aground. 

You can charm them with promises by mossy brooks, 

But when they leave, you’ll want to drown. 

Yes, what does it take to keep someone around? 

Oh, I don’t know what romantic love is.
